Irish Acres Pet Health

Irish Acres Pet Health was born from a mutual love of dogs and a dedication to helping pets regain and maintain optimal health through proper diet, nutrition and natural supplements. Owners Dana and John Bourassa have a passion for natural health care for pets. After working with dogs for more than 15 years, Dana became aware of common health problems among pets through her involvement in rescue work.

"I was Wisconsin coordinator for Rescue a Golden of Minnesota for two years and then founded and was the first president of Golden Retriever Rescue of Wisconsin until 2004. During that time, over 75 percent of the dogs that came into rescue had health issues that could have been prevented," she explains. "In the last six years, John and I have taken in a steady stream of dogs with major health problems and I became convinced that there had to be a more natural way of helping them other than shots and pills."

Encouraged by their own dog, Mutley's, response to acupuncture treatments for seizures, the Bourasses continued to research alternative, natural modalities as well as all-natural raw diet, supplements and therapeutic essential oils. Today, Irish Acres Pet Health offers such services as pet health consultation, workshops on pet nutrition and the use of therapeutic essential oils, and in-home boarding for dog-friendly dogs. Dana is a member of the International Association of Canine Professionals (IACP) and Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) and also offers behavior modification work and private training.

Irish Acres is proud to offer Raindrop Therapy, a system for dogs, cats and horses that combines the art of aromatherapy with the techniques of Vita Flex and massage in the application of essential oils to the spine, feet and legs. It also offers Innova EVO dog food, which is specially designed to provide all the key nutritional benefits received from the feeding of raw food diets but with the benefits of 21st century nutritional research.

Irish Acres Pet Health, located at W4023 Devine Lane, Appleton, carries a variety of raw pet food. "We believe in giving our dogs and cats the natural diet they were designed to eat," says Dana. "In the wild, dogs and cats would not eat cooked meats and grains. Their digestive system is meant for enzyme-rich raw meat, raw bones and the natural probiotics found in green tripe.

"Cooked pet food made from grains and questionable meat products, like those found in store bought pet food, is not created for their specific diet needs. Cooking destroys enzymes and probiotics that your pet needs to properly utilize their food."
